insulated slab

After completing the pour for slab 1, there was no rest. Any reusable timber from the forms of slab 1 got transferred to the forms for slab 2 - we even recycled almost every screw!

This slab is the living area of the cottage. We employed basic passive solar design with an 140mm insulated slab (40mm thicker than required - we coined the phrase "our solar battery") and with the slab getting direct sunlight from the north - our hope is the living area will be nice and toasty. Luckily, had nice weather during this phase - sometimes too warm and no showers - a couple of visits during the day from next door neighbors Tony, Max & Nathaniel and Farmer Tony, Sarah & Remi, always brightened our day. Oh yeah, another A+ report from the inspectors too! Pour 2 went fast and furious and before we knew it - we were done! 2 weeks to cure and then we'll start on the steel framing.
